2023 will be a massive year in Mount Isa. After all, it’s 100 years since the town was officially named. There are a heap of Mt Isa centenary events planned, as well as the usual range of events that happen every year. Read on to find out everything you need to know.
2023 Mount Isa centenary events
Mount Isa Day
Mount Isa Day is a centenary celebration event that will be held on Thursday February 23, 2023 between 4pm and 10pm at the Family Fun Precinct in Church Street, Parkside. There will be free entry to Splashez Aquatic Centre, live music, fireworks and food stalls.
Mount Isa 100 Years Reunion Gala Dinner
The Mount Isa 100 Years Gala Reunion Dinner will be held at the Buchanan Park Events Complex in George Street, The Gap on Saturday May 6 between 6pm and 11pm. Tickets are $150 and it’s an adults only event.
Other 2023 Mount Isa events
Of course, there will be the usual range of popular Mt Isa events, and many will have a centenary theme in 2023.
The Gulf Country 2023 Rail-Road-Ride Stage 4
This unique cycling event will allow you to cycle through Queensland’s outback for 870 kilometres over 12 days that includes 8 cycling days and 4 rest days. It will start on Sunday May 28 and run through to Thursday June 8. The route will take you from Mount Isa to Georgetown via Cloncurry, the Burke and Wills Roadhouse, Lawn Hill Gorge, Normanton, Karumba and Croydon.
It will cost you $2,000 to participate, but that includes support vehicles, camping costs, all breakfasts, lunch on riding days and dinner on remote camping nights.
Outback Queensland Masters Golf
Mount Isa will be the final event in the 2023 Outback Queensland Masters Golf series at the Mount Isa Golf Club on Saturday, June 17.
Amateur, social and first-time golfers will have the chance to compete in the 9-hole event that includes the Million-Dollar-Hole-in-One Challenge. It costs $370 to enter the 9-hole competition.
Mount Isa Show
The annual Mount Isa Show will be held on Friday 23rd and Saturday 24th June in 2023 at the Buchanan Park Events Complex in George Street. It will have a Mount Isa centenary theme this year as well as all the usual stalls, exhibits, workshops, demonstrations and entertainment.
Isa Street Festival
The Isa Street Festival is a free annual event that occurs in the Mount Isa CBD during Rodeo Week. In 2023, it will be held on Wednesday August 9 and it will feature food stalls, fireworks, a concert, rides and a street parade.
Mount Isa Mines Rodeo
The famous annual Mount Isa Mines Rodeo will be held from Thursday 10 August to Sunday 13 August in 2023 at the Buchanan Park Events Complex in George Street. The best national and international riders will compete in what is the largest rodeo event in the Southern Hemisphere.
2023 Drover’s Camp Festival
The Drover’s Camp Festival is an annual event that will be held over 3 days from Friday 25 August to Sunday August 27 in 2023 at Lot 15 on the Barkly Highway in Camooweal. As you’d expect, it features outback-themed entertainment that includes a concert along with plenty of stories and camp oven cooking demonstrations.
