What’s on in Mount Isa in 2024?
We might have had a few more celebrations than usual last year due to it being Mount Isa’s centenary year, but there’s still plenty of events happening in 2024. Read on to find out all the dates and events you need to know.
Distinguished Gentleman’s Ride
The Distinguished Gentleman’s Ride is an annual fundraising event to raise both awareness and money for men’s mental health and prostate cancer research. If you have a classic or vintage motorcycle (or you’d like to see them up close), then this is the event for you. Both riders and spectators are encouraged to wear their most “dapper” gentleman’s gear.
This year’s event will be held on Sunday May 19. The bikes will leave from the Outback at Isa in Marian Street at around 7.30pm and make their way to Tom O’Hara Park on Leichhardt River Road in Kalkadoon for a barbecue.
Isa Street Festival
The Isa Street Festival is a free annual event that occurs in the Mount Isa CBD during Rodeo Week. In 2024, it will be held on Wednesday August 7 from 6 to 11pm in West Street, and it will feature food stalls, fireworks, a concert, rides and a street parade.
Mailman Express
The Mailman Express is an annual 200 metre sprint time trial for non-thoroughbred horses that’s held at Mount Isa Race Club each year during Rodeo Week. The event is run in the early evening after a full day of thoroughbred racing. Festivities then kick on well into the night with food stalls and live entertainment. This year’s Mailman Express will be on Thursday 8 August.
Mount Isa Mines Rodeo
The famous annual Mount Isa Mines Rodeo will be held from Thursday 8 August to Sunday 11 August in 2024 at the Buchanan Park Events Complex in George Street. The best national and international riders will compete in what is the largest rodeo event in the Southern Hemisphere.
Drover’s Camp Festival
The Drover’s Camp Festival is an annual event that will be held over 3 days from Friday 23 August to Sunday August 25 in 2024 at Lot 15 on the Barkly Highway in Camooweal. As you’d expect, it features outback-themed entertainment that includes a concert along with plenty of stories and camp oven cooking demonstrations.
The RFDS Mount Isa Hangar Ball
The Royal Flying Doctor Service in Mount Isa is celebrating its 60th anniversary in 2024 with a ball on Saturday 14 September from 6.30pm until late. The event will feature live entertainment, food and drinks and will be held in the RFDS’s hangar base on the Barkly Highway, overlooking the runway that helps to transport over 2,000 flights and over 1,000 outback patients each year.
Ride for Pink
Ride for Pink is an annual motorcycle ride that raises funds for our local breast cancer support group on Mount Isa. This year’s event will be held on Sunday 13 October and riders will leave in a convoy from the Outback at Isa in Marian Street from 8.30am.
Of course, riders are encouraged to wear pink and it costs $25 per rider to participate, $15 for passengers over the age of 15, and kids can ride as passengers for free.
