What’s on in Mount Isa in May

May is shaping up as a big month in Mount Isa. Because this is our centenary year, there are plenty of one-off events, as well as some annual ones that happen in Mount Isa each May. Read on to find out all about what’s on, when and where to help you plan your spare time.

Saturday 6 May – Mount Isa 100 Years Gala Dinner

This literally is Mount Isa’s dinner event of the century. It’s been 100 years since the city was officially named, and the 100 Years Gala Dinner will be held in the Buchanan Park Entertainment Centre (corner of Sutton and George Street) from 6pm.

Limited tickets are still available and you can buy them here. The cost is $150 per person and it includes a three-course meal, a three-hour drinks package, live music and entertainment.

Sunday 7 May – Road to Rodeo Mount Isa

This one-off, one-day May event is a centenary year teaser for our famous four-day Mt Isa Rodeo that’s held in August each year at the Buchanan Park Events Complex. A range of rodeo events will be held in the afternoon before a night concert that will feature Cold Chisel legend Ian Moss, singer-songwriter Shannon Noll and country musician Luke Geiger.

Adult tickets are just $25 and kids under 17 are free. You can buy your tickets here.

Thursday 11 May and Friday 12 May – North West MPX

North West MPX is an annual mining industry expo that’s held in Mount Isa in May each year over two days. There will be a range of product/service exhibits and speakers. It’s free to attend and it will be held in the Mount Isa Civic Centre in West Street.

Saturday 13 May – Mother’s Day Races

In case you didn’t realise it, Sunday May 14 is Mother’s Day this year. The Mt Isa Race Club in Simpson Street is getting in a day early with its annual Mother’s Day race carnival. Why not get a group together and have some fun? There’s nothing quite like a day at the Mt Isa races.

Sunday 21 May – Mount Isa Distinguished Gentleman’s Ride

The Distinguished Gentleman’s Ride is a fun, leisurely motorcycle ride around the city and you’re encouraged to dress in your ‘most dapper’ gear. It’s an event that’s designed to raise funds for the Movember men’s health charity.

If you’re a motorcyclist and you want to participate, you must register here. And if you want to make a donation, you can do that here. The event is hoping to raise $10,000. The ride will start at Outback at Isa in Marian Street.

Sneak peak at Mount Isa events in June

If you can’t make the Mother’s Day races (or you want to go again), the Mount Isa Cup will be held on Saturday June 3. The night before, there’s a cocktail party at the Mount Isa Race Club.

If you’re a keen cyclist, the annual Mount Isa Border Ride will be held on Saturday 17 June. It’s a 200-kilometre ride to Camooweal Caves National Park. You need to register by Friday 12 May to participate.

The annual Mount Isa Show will be held on Friday 23 and Saturday 24 June at the Buchanan Park Events Complex, and this year it will have a centenary theme.
